GaGa: Going Madonna Once Again

Gaga, I admire your style and originality, but doesn't that new Alejandro video remind you of a couple of old Madonna videos wrapped into one? I have lined up Express Yourself, Human Nature and Like A Prayer and see for yourself where Gaga got her ispiration from.

Here Come Back The 90': Florence and the machine

What I love about this video so much that it reminds me of a Kate Bush song and a Eurythemics video. Florence herself is usually seen in beautifully drapped seventies type of dresses.

This 90's Eurythemics video is kind of what I mean with this Florence style, beautiful long hair and dresses.

Brown: A New Dutch Magazine

As an imagestylist it's always interesting to find out what's in the media as magazines are still very popular under consumers. It's always nice when a new magazine comes out that seems to fit my personal profile, and as it happened Brown magazine was lauchned last summer. Brown magazine is a dutch magazine with as target group all young dutch women of color. These women are well educated and amitious openminded and of course have a thing for fashion and beauty. The covers look okay enough, but I don't really like the logo.

These next pictures, are all of mine. I them around the same time back in February. It was part of an important course named 'Magazine' the first assignment was to make a selfportrait and the second one was to create your own magazine, the theachers wanted a title, a slogan, and cover. Then the teachers made a selection of four out of all me and my classmates concepts, these were the concepts that we were going to be working on in groups of five. Too bad my concept didn't win. Here my selfportrait and cover. The name of my magazine was Sway my concept and targetgroup

In the first semester of last schoolyear I had lot's of creative courses as this presentation technique assignment task. I got my photoshopaddication during these works

The School Assignment Part I

In my last blog I have already mentioned my 'big' schoolassignement and talked to you about the oil photoshop in Vogue Italia. Well, the reason I was investigating oil was because we had to think of something original to fit the theme 'Evolution'. The teacher told us to make a collection of four different pieces. So there I was thinking, I had so much fun on the last studio photoshoot with my friend maybe I can do something around that theme again. Also I think that as a imagestylist it's import to show a wide vision in styles, and be creative with it when change given.

So this is what I came up with. I wanted to do a collection of wigs that are supposed to be an evolution on wigs as we new them in the Golden Ages. These wigs will all be a symbol for expensive raw material of the earth such as raw gold, raw diamond, raw copper and raw oil. And I do want the wigs to be huge and impossible to wear in this world as we know it.
My teacher liked my pitch but she also wanted to see what could make my concept of ancient wigs more 2010. So after discussing a few thing her I have decided to add the theme electronica to my wig collection.

Here is some of my inspiration when it's comes to crazy big wigs these are by Katsuya Kamo. He is a make-up artist based in Tokyo, that turned from fashion design to hair and make-upstyling in the 1990 and since then has worked with Chanel among others...

Homework

When I was browsing the internet a few days ago, because I had to gader information for a big school assignment about evolution, I found this beautiful photoshoot. It was shot by Steven Meisel for Vogua Italia last summer and the topic as you can read is 'Water And Oil' this obviously refers to the oil disaster that happend in the Mexican Gulf last April.

The reason why I like these images so much is because it's fashion bringing out a statement and having a critical voice in media. What can I say I love a strong message. But of course there's also the setting of the shoot and the sun had seems to be pretty bright that day

I can't even make out what the models are wearing, but as a total I think it's a great looking image.

Marc and Giovanca?

You know, as soon as I see a collection as gorgeous the new Marc Jacobs collection, I make a connection to an musical artiest I would like for them to wear those clothes once, or at least extract some inspiration from.
So this time it reminded me of a dutch female singer named Giovanca, she has warm soulfull voice that goes with a beautiful slim body simply designed for these beautiful Marc Jacobs garments. Only that whole seventies vibe she will have to get used too.

One Of My Own

This is some of my own work. I made this less then a year ago, and I haven't taken any significant photos's since.
The reason why I wanted to put this on the blog is because this is what I love to do the most. Sometimes I often go through my own old work and review it. As an art student especially it reminds you of where you were a while ago and where you are heading from hear.

This was a studio session I did on a warm summer friday afternoon. We shot it in the studio at the Academy. It was very exciting, since I was make-up artist, stylist and photographer at the same time!So you know what that means lot of running around and hurrying up. Somehow I managed to stay calm enough to take a few good shots. Doesn't the first one remind you a bit of a seventies feel, might I say, a la Halston Heritage? Same soft tones and drapings?

Original Halstonette!

I came across this beautiful picture on style.com the other day taken by the amazing photographer Irving Penn cira 1972. The lights in this picture are so soft and feel so pure, and Pat's body has a goddess like curve. The model on the picture is Pat Cleveland by the way, one of the originals...

For some other cool pictures of Halston back in the day visit this link:

My Favourite New Female Music Artist 2010!

So this next piece is about some music, you know as a imagestylist in the making you have to stay on point when it comes to new artists coming out. Especially young female artists that set a positive example for other girls and young women out there (like myself). And yes I know 2010 isn't over yet and we had a couple of great artists emerging like Caro Emerald among others...

Anyway this girl is just a fresh breeze in an industry where women are continuous exploiting their bodies all for a good recorddeal and millions in the bank. Her name is Janelle Monae and she's signed to the Wondaland Arts Society (Outkast's label) and The Badboy/Atlanta Records (P.Diddy's label).

Though she brings a fresh and unique sound to the music business, the influence of Outkast can not be denied but I am absoluteling not complainting. Maybe that's what makes her even more unique. Her own voice is soft yet sharp at times, which make her produce beautiful touching ballads. Her music also has that same Outkast funky feeling and weird fast beat that makes you not even know how to dance to it anymore! Well than just bounce! That's what I always do...
This is one of my favourite tracks off of her sophomore album The Arch Android called Cold War.

But let's talk style and image for a second now. As you can see on these pictures Janelle has a rather masculine style going on. Her hairdo reminds me of Elvis this brings out her gorgeous face. But those suits she always wears? Well, I don't know about those yet but as I said earlier, she is refreshing! I think Beyonce should take an example and cover up a bit as she's getting older

Of course Janelle not always dressed in Marlene Diettrich-like-suits, so here's a few pictures of her and see which style you like better...

We Love Marc! We Do!

Okay, so as your regular bringer of late news, I do feel the need to say something about
the new ready-to-wear Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2011 collection. He showed his collection about a month ago and suprised me pleasently, I have always been a big Marc Jacobs fan(Just like the rest of the world!) so he couldn't do much wrong in my book. But this collection exeeded my expectations, his style had a strong seventies feel to it and since I have been studying Halston for the past couple of months, I, of course was immediately in love with his collection!

Here is some pictures from his collection...

See what nightclub feelings these dresses evoke...
They also have an exotic touch to them especially with the flower

My One To Watch: Manish Arora

I have only known this next designer for over 2 years but I am so impressed by his work that I had to tell you about him! Manish Arora is from India, and has been showing his collection every year since 2005 during London Fashionweek. I discovered his work watching and reading the reviews on Swarovksi Jewelryweek 2008 in London. So it's save to say that this designer definitely knows a few things about jewelry. His signature style is all about colors, playfulness and of course some more jewelry.

During the Paris Fashionweek he showed his new collection here are some images...

As you can see there's a lot going on with this collection. Again we see lot's of use of color, but not just random. The colors he uses for his garments are all soft-toned, his accessories have a golden, armourlook . There is also a very visible theme through out the whole collection. Looking at the whole image I get warrior feeling, a non-western kind. The beautiful applications on the head and lower legs are very interesting and remind me of something worn by a character from that movie Avatar. Of course he shows of all his craftsmenship and goes all the way in accessorizing his models!

The one thing that puts me off just a litte was that the collection kind of reminded me of something Galliano might do. Of course Galliano would take it to an extreme. No wonder they call him the John Galliano of India!

Here's a link to Manish his own website it's pretty funny! I just haven't figured out what the fried fish is about haha!

It's the Hobo bag!!!

Look at the beautiful bag my boyfriend gave me a while ago! And get this he doesn't know anything about fashion or designers what so ever! Yet still he managed to get me this fantastic bag!

Ultrasuede:In Search Of Halston

Hey you guys,
I finally figured out how to put a movie on my blog So I found some images of Halston, the designer I was discussing a few days ago remember.

In this clip, you'll taste the vibe of the 70's and what Halstons influence was...

10/2/10

So moving on to the point of my previous blog about Halston, I wanna tell you about a movie that came out recently about his life. It's a documentary by director Whitney Sudler-Smith that was an awardnominee at the Tribeca Film Festival this year.

Now I was looking for a link to give you all to see the trailer of the movie, but I couldn't quite figure out how to put on the blog yet, since I am pretty new at this, it didn't work. But here is a link to the movies website...

All About Halston Heritage

The Halston Heritage label was launched by Halston in 2009 as a hip diffusion line, with lot's of soft tones en silky smooth fabrics versus the glits and glamourus line of evening dress, I Llove it!As many trendsetting celebs do. Sarah Jessica Parker and Chloe Sevigny are both seen in the Heritage line.

Sarah Jessica Parker in her HH dress

And still today the line appears to have that same glamourus, and elegant silhouettes. Just like the original 'Halstonettes', Bianca Jagger, Pat Cleveland and Anjelica Huston just to have back in the day...

My One To Watch: Halston

As of today I have decided that i'm gonna blog totally in English. This way my readers from abroad can read my stories too!

So for this next blog I must be up front and just say that this is actually kind of old news, but quite new to me! I mean, I hear about lot's of designers all the time, old and new i'm hearing new things also since i'm an art student. But this next bit I figured out all by myself.

It's all about this topdesigner named Halston from the seventies. This decade was often defined to as a time of hedonism, hazardous fun, Saturday Night Fever, Studio 54 and Andy Warhol.
And then there was Halston, a legendary designer from Des Moines, Iowa.
Roy Halston Frowich was born on April 23, 1932. He developed his interest for sewing after his mother. After high school Halston, attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and he had his first break designer hats. Atfer this Halston soon moved to New York where he moved on to designing women's wear. His design were worn by Bianca Jagger, Liza Minelli, Anjelica Huston, Babe Paley and Lauran Bacall. His style and brand were soon too be closely associated with the international jet set of that time. Despite his achievements, his increasing drugs abuse undermined his succes. And he finally got fired from his own company and lost the right to design and sell clothes under his own name. He died on March 26 1990 of complications of AIDS.

Don't you wanna see some of his design nowadays? Than go to halston.com !
See some beautiful images of Halston's fall collection!

The Fashion PR Guru!

Introducing: Me
